Poetical Excerpts from a Creative Writing Course

Haiku
Childhood beyond glass,
It immediately fogs.
I am out of breath.
Sonnet
The only thing in life I dared to claim,
If all enjoyment were to be denied,
In writing I was sure to make my name
Which people would remember when I died.
This lonely road to me seemed set in stone
Until you took me off the beaten track;
So that I do not spend my days alone,
And life seems full of thing it used to lack.
But now the cover’s name has lost appeal;
No poem of mine should trumpet writer’s wit
If lines do not reflect the way I feel,
And praise your heart, your smile and, yes, your feet.
And yet, like none before who penned, I fear
My poems will all fall short of you, my dear.
Non-Turning Axis
Has anything changed by the wave break;
That word that came rushing, full force,
Until it washed over their shore?
Perhaps nothing is ever changed by one wave
Or even two or three or ten or more.
She stood watching the sands unchanged by the watershed:
The turning point of their language – a word.
No milestone divides this calm ocean bank
Unpeopled in sea and on shore,
Yet the blue of the bay would never betray
How deeply its waters reach,
And how smoother the stones than before.

Never
Cry him a river
Then drown him in it.
Fill the lungs with brackish water,
Put magnolias on top off the eyelids,
After they have closed for the last time.
Remove his middle name from the stone,
Tell his mom to move on,
Tell his dad to never forget.
Leave the dog until the summer is over.
He has no dog,
Never wanted one.
When You Kill Your Ego
The altar of your sacrifice smells rose.
Wild rose, incense and wax. Each time you kill
Your Ego for me, I feel your soul divine.
My love, if it’s not yours, then whose?
The sword you have is light, you lost it once
When you fought back your fate, away from home,
But then you learnt how hard it is to dip
Yourself in lies; when hope without faith dies.
It took me time to trust your heart; you see
My mind is used in fake identities
Since I was told this world is mean. I mean,
Who dares to care for others anymore?
Unique you are and I might feel like God
When you free love from egocentric wants.
